The department of Botany is well known as a dignified department under the science faculty of Brindaban Government College, Habiganj. The department has started its glorious journey since the 1998-1999 session by opening B.Sc. (Hons) course, although it has a previous history of ISC (Higher Secondary) under Dhaka University and B.Sc (pass) course under Chittagong University for more than sixty years. Successively, it has opened the M.Sc program in the 2017-2018 academic session under the National University curriculum. The main area of graduation and post-graduation study includes Microbiology, Mycology, Phycology, Higher Cryptogams, Biodiversity, Ecology & Environmental Science, Plant Pathology, Plant Taxonomy, Limnology, Embryology, Plant Anatomy, Plant Physiology, Phytochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Genetics, Cytogenetics, Cytology, Microbial Biotechnology, Biotechnology, etc. The department has a good reputation not only for academic achievement but also for extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. The Botany department is located on the 1st floor of the newly constructed 5-storied science building on the northwest side of the main campus. The department has a rich seminar library with necessary books, publications, journals, and newspapers along with computer and broadband internet facilities. Likewise, the department has a well-equipped laboratory with necessary instruments and chemicals for practical classes as well as students get the opportunity to visit research organizations, farms, forests, and ecological zones for real-world knowledge. Moreover, the department possesses multimedia classrooms, skilled staff, and has qualified academics of the BCS (Gen. Education) cadre, thus it becomes the center of excellence in education at Brindaban Government College.
